Sandy makes X-Country ski debut!
I lived through it. I can still walk. I fell 4 times but managed to get up the first 3 times. The fourth time was in the parking lot and I just said screw it and took my skiis off with Mark's help. He thinks I am very slow and ungainly. I made it all around the whole park though and I know you are all thinking that there are very flat trails in that park but I am here to tell you there are plenty of slopes to be found. I should know, I fell on every one. Mark and I have been eating too much food. I don't think I have lost any pounds yet. :(
Laurie Skis and Eats....all on 23Jan11
Hello everyone,
I got out skiing today at Cannonsburg St Game Are. We skiied for probably and hour and fifteen minutes or so. My eating habits are still not the best but they seem to improve when I start moving a bit. How are the skiis working out Sandy? My one and only tip for x-country skiing is to really suck in your gut especially when going up a hill. It seems to make your butt stay more underneath you or something, plus it just strengthens your core. I fell twice going down a hill (it was kind of icey) but then when I remembered the "suck in your gut" thing I did much better. I also bought Just Dance 2 for the wii (over a week ago) and just plugged it in for the first time today. I did a warm up and then "It's Raining Men" for 11 minutes. I didn't do more because we were going skiing. I liked it. I can see myself maybe doing a few minutes in the eveing after work for starts and then hopefully increasing the time. I'll keep you posted.
Wondering how Bri did in Vegas and Sherry and Kevin too.
Planning on skiing again next Friday out at Pigeon Creek with a friend who either hasn't done any or hasn't done much x-country skiing before. Jim and I are game for skiing out at Hoffmaster too. His race is the weekend of Feb. 5 so it will probably be after that. But we'll have to make a plan before we lose all this glorious snow.
Well, got some Zuma Blitz work to do. Look forward to ya'lls blogs.
Mrs. Huge
PS: We have a weigh in coming up next weekend. Should we make a plan?

Laurie Rambles
Mark,
Would you please send me detailed info on how to post on this site. Twice I have made posts but I'm doing something wrong and they are never there. I even made a google account. Did I have to do that? Becky just sent me an e-mail that said a mass mailing was sent out from me to all of my hotmail people about viagra and other drugs. Did you or Sandy get one? Anyhow, I am failing miserably on the biggest loser. I am not motivated at all and I keep eating way too much bad stuff. I have been out twice skiing, Saturday at Cannonsburg State Game Area and today at Aman Park. Saturday was perfect, today the snow was a bit sticky, but I'm still glad I went. Did Sandy get skis yet? When will our next weigh in be. I need to get my $10.00 ready to hand over to the bggest loser cuz I sure know it ain't gonna be me. BTW: you totally ate more calories than you burned when you skiied last week.....Just Sayin'! Oh, and one other thing. I totally rocked on Zuma Blitz FB and I expect to see you on there a bit more often. It's a great game.

Mark Goes Cross Country Skiing
Mark in Chicago, at Harry Carey's restaurant. Mark had the bleau cheese burger here with plenty of fries.
Anyway, Yeah, it was 08Jan11, Mark went to the Gun Lake area and Cross-country ski'd for about 2.5 hours. Yep, I was sweating quite a bit, and when I was done, I ended up at some place called the Sand Bar, where I ordered a Sandburger, which was actually sausage, but it tasted like hamburger. I had lots of french fries too. I had 4 beers too. Do you guys know if those calories I ate negated all the ones I burned up? Just wondering.

Diet Police Spotted at Higgins House
Day 1. I got up and posted on the icebox was "the simple diet" put there by Taylor who had done research the night before. It contains a diet plan and some do's and don'ts in bold letters like..."NO HASH BROWNS OR FRENCH FRIES". There are diet police at my house.
Day 2. Somebody brought doughnuts at work and for the 1st time in my life I refrained. It wasn't that bad. There are diet sabotogers everywhere.
Day 3. Did some exercize for about 1/2 hour...just dance and used some weights and the exercise ball. The worst time for me is between dinner and going to bed, I just want to snack so I've been drinking lots of water.
Day 4. Have not lost a single ounce. Legs are sore from exercise. Walked 1/2 hour around Rocford Highschool while Taylor had bassoon lesson.
Day 5. Woke up with a slight bout of intestinal upset. (i know, right, too much info.) Only thing I ate the rest of the day was pepto bismal and i don't know how many points that is so won't eat too much more. They say it might be the bloody flux.
We will see what tomorrow brings

Sandy still amazed at Mark's eating habits!!
Sandy Ewing has always been impressed by the large portions Mark is able to get down. Recently she has seemed to be more impressed by his speed. "I don't believe how fast he eats. He is always the first one done during the lunch breaks at work, and I think he is even faster during our dinners at home."
Mark remained modest. "They say I do eat lots, and I do eat fast. Well, I was built for speed, so I don't know what the big deal is now, I have always been fast, and you know what? I think I can get even faster."

Hi Mark,
I wanted to let you know that I responded to your blog but I must have done something wrong because I didn't see it there. Anyhoo, if necessary, you may cut and paste this to the web page.
Mrs Huge is starting out pretty good. Gradually working my way into decreased caloric intake as I know this is my biggest downfall. The dashing figure and I did a mall walk (one loop) Monday morning ONLY because we were at the mall early waiting for the store to open. When we completed our business at the mall we stopped at Meijer Gardens and did another walk; I'd say we walked a good hour Monday. Sunday I made some weight watchers vegetable soup which has zero points for one cup of soup and it tastes pretty good. I serve it over rice which is about 2 points and it's a pretty filling meal. I tried to keep track of points today and figure I ate about 29 points. Kind of high I think for me but like I said, "I am gradually working my way into decreasing caloric intake". I had to make a treat for a retirement party tomorrow- I made weight watchers carrot cake; I hope I don't eat it all before tomorrow. Being hungry after lunch until dinner has always been a problem for me. It's when I'm always looking for more food. Today after dinner and dishes I took a walk about up to the school and back. It seems to have helped a little bit. Anyone have any tips or tricks to get me through the afternoon? Looking forward to reading the web page on a daily basis, I hope others wil make posts. Welp, that's all

01Jan11: Biggest Loser Contest kicks off with a walk around Pickerel Lake
Yes, to kick things off, we had Mark, Sandy, Jim, Laurie, Kevin, Sherry and even some kids went on a glorious walk around Pickerel Lake. The 45 minute walk was done in a cool 28 degree weather and the wind off the lake made it feel even colder, but nevertheless everyone finished strong. No one lost signifcant weight though. Jim Veenema, a dashing figure to behold, looked very impressive in the up-hill portion. "Yeah, me feeling pretty good today, I don't weigh myself ever, I can't wait for the next meeting where I can eat some food. I'll have lots."
Then the contestants drove back to the Higgin's house where each subject ate some nuts and drank some beer. Mark took attendance and made rules. The subjects went to the basement and were weighted in and BMI'd.
Mark PumpkinKing: 30.29 189
Sandy Missy 33.84 211
Jim Mo 22.37 165
Laurie Mrs Huge 29.05 158
Sherry Missy 23.75 139
Kevin Dad 33.89 244
In one month, the winner will be the person who makes the best gain by percentage of BMI. Each member will bring $10 to the meeting to give to the winner. Then the contest begins again, with the new weight data as the starting point. I believe the plan is for 3 months, but maybe we need to be more clear at the next meeting.
Mark ate 6 pieces of cheese the night the contest ended. Not a good start. He did shovel the walk today and he did think about doing some cross country skiing later on when he gets a fresh start next week....
